While the Ages Roll On.
Kipling, like most prairie towns was established to serve the railway which was mandated to serve the pioneers as they settled the country building houses, businesses and most importantly, a community. In 1946 Roy Ransom established a GM dealership by the name of Ransom's Garage. He continued to serve the surrounding area until 1978 when Glen and Kay McMillan moved to Kipling from Humbolt and purchased the dealership changing the name to McMillan Motor Products.
When Glen and Kay began the facility consisted of 4 service
bays, a wash bay, a service department and 2 sales offices. Glen noticed that one of the services missing
that was needed by the farmers in the area was a place to get their grain
trucks serviced. In 1982 he added an
additional service bay that would provide the trained technicians a place where
they could work on these larger vehicles.
The business continued to grow and in 1989 Glen realized that the
facility needed to be expanded so another addition was added to the facility
which included 2 more offices and a much need room to house the computer
equipment that was becoming an integral operation.
In August of 1998, the dealership changed hands again as Glen sold the dealership to his Son-in-law Mark Olson. During this time, there were other businesses growing in the Kipling district and this along with other factors had an impact on the dealership as well. Serving the community has been at the forefront of this dealership since its inception and as growth continued, more changes were made to the facility to make it a comfortable place for customers to do business in. In 2001 the interior was given a maker over and in 2009 another office was added. At this time plans were made to build a brand new facility that would be able to serve the community.
On September29 , 2012 a ribbon cutting ceremony was held and the doors were opened for the community to come and tour the new facility which now included a 2 car showroom, 7 offices for management, sales and our finance department, a computer room, a reception area along with a customer lounge, a service drive through, a clothing and accessory store, a fully stocked parts room, a board room and a service bay that now has 10 stalls complete with all of the state of the art equipment required to service any vehicle you purchase from McMillan Motor Products . We are still able to utilize our previous facility for a detailing department which is able to take the dirtiest vehicle and make it look new.
While the ages have rolled on you can see that there have been many changes but most of them have been structural changes that were made in an effort to serve the community. Helpful, friendly, knowledgeable staff have always been at the core of McMillan Motor Products. If you have never had the opportunity to see our new facility and meet our staff, we invite you to come see us at 420 Railway St. .
